Herman Royce on God Almighty
Imagine the mess we’d make if humans were in charge of the universe. Now read God Almighty to see what I think would happen, noting, if you please, that any resemblance between depicted characters and real people, living or dead, is purely deliberate.

About the Book
When a long-suffering tripartite deity takes charge of a new universe, they battle baffling experimental physical laws, rebellious servants, office space shortages, a political election with the lives of mortals serving as votes, aloof but omnipotent employers. Yet, their greatest obstacles are themselves. From the creation of the universe to the present and beyond, God Almighty explores the everlasting battle between authority and the individual, and offers an alternate brief history of time as it might have been.

About the Author

Intent from the age of six on becoming an astronomer, Herman Royce’s first formal training in the subject at University irrevocably changed his mind. After completing his science degree, he stumbled into public administration, and eventually data management. To cope, he spent much of his spare time writing humour, inadvertently―as it turned out―for small private audiences (usually two or fewer). In the late ’80s, events prompted Herman to seek to understand how anything as transparently unjustifiable as neoliberal economics could hold sway over policy makers. A definitive critique and proposal for an alternative economic and political system followed, but no publisher for it. Some derived articles, however, provided Herman with his first and (so far) only taste of publication―in a free community newspaper and an esoteric journal with a readership perhaps in the hundreds. For therapy, Herman attempted a novelisation of a work from his teens, which became God Almighty. A second novel detailing the alternative system is almost complete. Now working aptly enough in the field of mental health research, he lives with his partner of 17 years and two young children in a leafy outer suburb of Melbourne, Australia  where, despite the usual inaccuracy of the cliché, kangaroos graze in the adjoining vacant lot.
